2025-04-24 - This entry represents the installation of a used organ by an unknown person or firm. Identified through information on a related OHS Database entry (ID=72946). The instrument was originally built by an unidentified builder in 1939 for St. Luke's Anglican Church in Brantford. That organ was rebuilt (?) by Franklin F. Legge ca. 1955. When St. Luke's Anglican closed in 2015, their organ was acquired by St. Patrick's which was already in-process of a major sanctuary renovation. -Jim Stettner
2025-04-24 - Updated through online information from Andrew Henderson (April 11, 2025): From an email from Fr. William Foote, former pastor (June 15, 2022): "The work was completed the month that I retired as pastor - June of 2019. The William Legge organ was removed from the former St. Luke's Anglican Church on Elgin Street in Brantford. I was, in the early 1980's, an Anglican priest and was rector of that parish. The organ was, I believe, used when they installed it at some point in the first half of the 20th century, but I always thought it to have a lovely, warm tone. When St. Luke's closed around 2015, I asked the Anglican diocese if it might be removed at no cost to them. After some thought, they agreed. The removal was undertaken by the Denton Company of Hamilton and this was accomplished and the organ placed in the garages of St. Patrick's - however, due to a health emergency, the Dentons were unable to handle the installation. We contracted with an organist from Toronto, who endeavoured to do the work, but who botched the job badly after many months of trying before we had no choice but to terminate the contract. We were fortunate, early in 2019, to arrange with Doddington Pipe Organ Inc. out of Guelph to complete the work - which they did admirably and in a timely manner. A few notes: -The Legge console was irredeemable when removed from St. Luke's and was replaced by a used three manual Casavant found in Burlington. -The trumpet was installed at St. Luke's during the 1990's. -The bellows and at least one stop are Casavant - installed by Doddington. -Electronic enhancements were added to give more depth in the pedals, together with some additional voicing. All told, I think that - while a bit of a hodge-podge - it suits the space and the liturgy at St. Patrick's very well." -Jim Stettner
