2010-02-11 - Updated through online information from Joseph Bertolozzi. -- There was a question as to whether this organ is in the O.L. of Loreto R.C. Church also in Cold Spring. It is not. The original church was called O.L. of Cold Spring and was situated on the banks of the Hudson River. Another Catholic church opened in town named O.L of Loreto. They have another organ. The history of the building that currently houses this Bozeman organ is as follows, from their website: "The Chapel is an architectural gem in the Greek Revival style, dramatically situated on a rock bluff overlooking the Hudson River. It was designed in 1833 and, when consecrated in 1834 as The Church of Our Lady of Cold Spring, was the first Roman Catholic Church in the New York Archdiocese north of 14th Street, Manhattan. It remained a vital part the religious life of the community until 1907, when a larger Catholic Church was built on Fair Street in the village. During the following six decades, the Chapel was abandoned, vandalized and ravaged by weather and fire. <br><br>"In 1970, a group of concerned citizens organized the Chapel of Our Lady Restoration, Inc. and raised funds to purchase and restore the ruin. Their work accomplished, the building was re-dedicated on September 18, 1977 as a Chapel for people of all faiths. <br><br>"Today, the Chapel is not affiliated with any church or religious organization. It is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors which is pleased to offer it as an ecumenical setting for weddings and other significant events. The restored structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places." -Database Manager
