2009-03-10 - Updated through information posted to PIPORG-L March 9, 2008 by Nathan Smith: -- "I had the honor of tuning the pipes of the Girard instrument for the last five years up until I relocated to NY last fall.
Although there are modifications to the voicing and missing/replaced mixture ranks in places, the vast majority of the organ is more-or-less there. The Solo Tubas have been goosed and "Frenchified", there are two ranks that have been simply swapped around, and several soft ranks that have been ruined at some point, their beards plucked and/or mouths cut-up with what could only have been fingernail clippers. It is also reasonable to assume the reports of the 32' Bombarde having been loudened as it is a real rip-snorter; pretty out of character for a Wood-bassed rank of its kind. The poor Tuba Mirabilis still sports the hooks and supports that were soldered all over it to hang it upside-down, though it now rests on its side grazing the chamber ceiling opening. Most of the conical reeds were fitted with slides that have a habit of falling down, ... .
The organ chambers and surrounding attic are probably one of the coolest organ-spaces on earth." -Database Manager
