Erie Historical Society, Erie, PA c. 1869 Derrick & Felgemaker portable (PIPORG-L Aug 1998) "I have in my collection a one manual; 2-rank Derrick & Felgemaker "Portable" pipe organ from 1869." I [Ken List] also had one, (dating from somewhat earlier) but in really not-so-good condition. I had always promised that I would 'get it going' - but sadly the press of work kept me from realizing that goal. When I left Erie to move to Oregon in 1982, I gave it to the Erie Historical Society museum with the hope that they might be persuaded to fix it up - but I would guess that they did not. For all I know, it still sits there silently. They were quite cleverly arranged (mine had pedalboard which duplicated the common-bass notes of the two ranks by use of "pallets-on-pallets") and the pipes were anchored in such a way that the shipment would not put them out of order. The two ranks each had little stop-knobs, but the wood bass octave was permanently 'on' and had no slider to control it. Despite its condition, one could still detect good workmanship and clever design.
