Notes

2004-10-30 - Church and organ consecrated Fall 1848. Black walnut case designed by Upjohn. -Database Manager

2016-05-16 - Updated through online information from Jim Hopkins.
The organ was originally placed in a raised gallery in the north transept. It seems to have been unreliable, requiring expensive repairs every 10 years or so. The organ was rebuilt in 1885, and again in 1913. It was rebuilt and enlarged in 1928, and moved to a gallery the rear of the church.

That same year, a choir organ was placed on the north end of the chancel (I could find no information about that instrument). Still dissatisfied, the Rector called three organ builders to propose improvements to the organ. All three builders agreed that it was worthless and that both the gallery and the chancel organs should be discarded.

Both instruments were removed and replaced by Austin op. 1752 in 1930. (Information taken from "Grace Church in Newark: The First Hundred Years" by Edward F. Bataille). -Database Manager
