Welte & Sons was seized in 1917 by the United States government under the Alien Property Custodian act. The firm's assets were sold in auction, and eventually acquired by George Gittins of the Estey firm of Brattleboro, Vermont. Dalrymple was one of the new American officers of the reorganized firm.
