Edited February 4, 2017, (Hall). - August Erb was born July 4, 1838 in Fulda, Germany; he immigrated to the United States, c.1866. He was a woodcarver, and a cabinetmaker. He lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Freeburg, Illinois; before settling in Mishawaka, Illinois, in 1871. He became a partner with organbuilder Louis H. Van Dinter in Erb & Van Dinter Organ & Altar Factory of Mishawaka, Illinois, in 1886. He established a separate church furniture firm in Mishawaka in 1874, but may have continued his work with Van Dinter for a few years after that. Erb retired in 1905; he died April 1, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan. Source: The Tracker 33:3 (1989), 19.
