2015-12-10/2019-02-11 - From the OHS Database Builders Listing editor, updated March 8, 2016. - Ernst Julius Bachman was born in Lititz, Pennsylvania, on 18 October, 1801 to John Philip Bachman and Susanna Elizabeth Albright.1 Lititz, located six miles north of Lancaster, was founded in 1756 as a Moravian enclave, only members of the church could own property or live there until 1856.2 Ernest's father was an assistant and apprentice to David Tanneberg, who had moved his shop from Bethlehem to Lititz in August 1765. Ernest also learned the trade in the Tanneberg shop, but as business declined, he left the organ building trade and went to Lebanon, Pennsylvania to teach school.
