Fox (Richmond, Va., Organ Historical Society, 1991; rev. ed., 1997, with updated information). - Born 1805 in Salem, Massachusetts; brother of George G. Hook. He, along with his brother, was an apprentice with William Goodrich of Boston, Massachusetts. He built his first organ while operating a music store with his brother in Salem, Massachusetts, 1827. He established the organ firm of E. & G. G. Hook with his brother in Boston, Massachusetts, 1831, and was head of the business office. The firm became E. & G. G. Hook & Hastings in 1872 when Francis Hastings became a full partner. Elias Hook died June 15, 1881 in Boston, Massachusetts; he was succeeded as head of the firm by Francis Hastings.
