Fox (Richmond, Va.: Organ Historical Society, 1997). - Sources disagree on year of his birth. Son of Joseph C. Prante, brother of Joseph E. Prante, father of Anthony M., August P., Joseph G. and Nicholas A. Prante. With his father's firm in Louisville, Kentucky, by 1866; established his own firm, briefly named Louisville Organ Manufactory, in Louisville, Kentucky, by 1867; in St. Meinrad, Indiana, 1874-c. 1889; in Owensboro, Kentucky, c. 1889-1891; in Louisville, Kentucky, 1892, firm named August Prante & Son(s), 1895; died in carriage accident in Louisville, Kentucky.
