2020-07-17 - I grew up attending Immaculate Heart of Mary parish and elementary school. I recall the cost of the organ being discussed when plans of its purchase and installation were announced. The contract cost was $25,000.00 or $1,000.00 per rank. The church's organist and choir director at the time, Norman L. Sydnor, once told me that choice of the Austin was an economic one ... it was the most organ for the money. Apparently, M.P. Moller also made bid on the project. -Mark Hurley

The organ was installed in the church's choir gallery in tight chambers on both sides of the gallery. The swell chamber was on the left side, facing the gallery and the great on the right. The chambers spoke into the gallery, through expression shutters painted black, and not directly into the nave. There was no casework or exposed pipes. Installation was by Brantley Duddy, who was the Austin representative/installer, in Fall 1965. Mr. Duddy returned for additional tonal regulation in Summer 1966.
