2006-10-18 - Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. -- The contract was signed on Sept. 1, 1965, and the instrument was promised in 27 months. The cost was $68,000.00. An account of the organ can be seen in the April 1966 issue of Diapason. The 6-rank Echo division was retained from the previous Kimball organ and is located in a ceiling chamber in the SE corner of the sanctuary. It is playable only from the Swell and is subject to the Swell intra-manual couplers. The chimes, while playable from the Great, are located in the Positiv. Of the façade, the far left and far right clusters of 7 pipes each are the first 14 pipes of the Great 16' Gemshorn. The remaining 33 pipes are the 32 pipes of the Pedal 16' Principal plus one dummy. Aside from the 6-rank Echo, one other old rank is retained. This is the Pedal 32'/16' Bourdon. It is hung upside-down behind the Great, so that the mouths aren't hidden by the Universal windchests and so that the stoppers are more accessible. The building was damaged in the Ash Wednesday Nisqually earthquake in 2003, and various plans are being considered at present (October, 2006). -Database Manager
2013-07-22 - Updated through online information from Jeff Scofield. -- The building was sold to Daniels Development in 2008; the sanctuary became the Daniels Recital Hall; the Mars Hill Church began using the facility as their downtown campus in 2012. -Database Manager
2014-06-06 - Updated through online information from Sean Haley. -- Upon selling the previous church the congregation did not relocate to the suburbs, but to a newly built building near Seattle Center at 180 Denny Way. The church currently uses a 3 manual electronic instrument. While a committee was formed to explore having a new pipe organ built and proposals submitted, no contract has yet been awarded. -Database Manager
2016-07-26 - Updated through online information from Lanny Hochhalter. The former church building will become a conference center. Earthquake reinforcement of the masonry walls required removal of the organ. The historic commission specified that the room be visually preserved. The facade will be reinstalled, but the organ will not. The developers were kind enough to allow Hochhalter, Inc. to remove all but a few of the pipes (including the 1911 Kimball 32' Bourdon). It was not possible to save any of the Austin air boxes or windchests. -Database Manager
