Notes

2006-10-17 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This was the congregations' third building, and their third pipe organ. The date of the Kimball is sometimes given as 1909, but this is incorrect - or may be the contract date. The organ was built in 1910, and wasn't installed until 1911. A sad yet interesting note is that one of the members of the famous New York organ building Jardine family was working on this organ when he shot himself on April 1, 1911. This was likely either Edward D. or Charles Jardine - great nephews of the firm's founder, George Jardine. The façade was immense - spanning the full width of the chancel and containing 99 pipes. It is not know how many - if any - of these pipes were speaking pipes. The organ cost $20,000.00 and is described in the February 1910 and June 1911 issues of Diapason. The expression shoes to the Swell and the Great/Choir were mechanically linked, but the Echo was electrically operated. An extant photo of the console shows that toe studs and foot levers were labeled on round discs set face-up into a board between the Swell keys and the coupler rail. The actual order from left-to-right is unknown. The exact nomenclature of stops and controls is not verifiable. -Database Manager
