2021-06-16 - My thanks to Becky Compton for send these excerpts from a 1970 publication: From page 101, 1970 FPC History Book “On December 14th, 1896 at a Session meeting on motion a committee consisting of W. B. Oliver, C. B. Verner, and Miss Stella Harris was authorized to sell the old organ in the church and purchase a new one--provided the church be involved in no financial responsibility for it. “ From page 102 “On June 16th, 1897 the following minute was read and adopted at a Session meeting: 1. The Session has learned with regret that the recent effort on the part of our young ladies to raise money for the organ, was concluded with dancing, and as this brings reproach upon the Church of God, we desire to put on record our disapproval of such conduct. We are however pleased to know that the dancing was not a part of the plan of the young ladies who had the management of the entertainment in hand, and furthermore, that it was against the will and desire of the most of them and that some of them tried earnestly to prevent it.” The "old organ" referred to here is elsewhere identified only as being "from 1855." No other identification has been found so far. -Jim Cook
