2022-09-29 - The Odell organ was built for Bell Chapel in Nyack, New Yark. It appears on the demoninational breakdown Odell list, but seems to be one of the blanks on the numbered Odell list. Bell Chapel disappeared when the Tappan Zee Bridge was built, and the organ was moved to a church in West New York, New Jersey; it was relocated again in 1966 to the Chapel of the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, as a temporary organ, serving between removal of the School's former 3m J. W. Steere & Son Organ Co. instrument and Installation of the 1968 3m Andover Organ Co. tracker. From Lawrenceville, the Odell went to St. Rose R.C. Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in 1970, where it served until 1987, at which time a much larger church was constructed for which the Odell would have been inadequate. Thus, it once again became available, and was renovated by David E. Wallace for the Wayne Church. All its recent moves were arranged through the Organ Clearing House. Nor are its moving days over; it is mounted on a wheeled platform, so that it can be moved out of Its chamber for tuning. When the organ was installed at the Lawrenceville School by E. A. Kelly & Associates of Lawrence, Massachusetts, the swell shutters were removed, and some tonal changes were made. Additional tonal changes were made when the organ went to Maryland. The facade pipes, originally in an "A" formation, were rearranged in Lawrenceville into three Romanesque flats with a cornice above; In Gaithersburg, they were rearranged again into an "M" formation.
