Notes

2005-12-06 - Identified through on-line information from James R. Stettner. -- This organ was originally built for the Henry K. Rhodes residence in Tacoma. That home was later purchased by the Clapp family. When they relocated to Medina, they had the organ moved and reinstalled. In 1957. Mr. Clapp gave the organ as a gift to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in the Magnolia section of Seattle, where it was installed by Balcom and Vaughan with a 4' Principal added to the Great. It was later enlarged to 3-manuals by Balcom and Vaughan Pipe Organs, Inc. in 1979 with new Kilgen-style E-P unit chests. When the organ suffered rodent damage, they were considering a new organ anyway as well as a sanctuary renovation. The organ was purchased and removed by James R. Stettner of Seattle. The Balcom and Vaughan windchests went to St. John's RC in Seattle for a rebuild project there. Some of the pipes went to Chehalis United Methodist for a project there, and other ranks were sold and/or traded. The console was later given to St. John's RC by Clint & DeAnne Meadway. -Database Manager
