2006-10-25 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This organ was originally built for the [New] Joy Theatre and was installed there by C. M. "Sandy" Balcom. It served there only 8 years before it was relocated in 1936 to Queen Anne Baptist by Balcom and Vaughan. It was installed "as is" except for the removal of the traps and percussions. In 1971, the console pneumatics were releathered, the bronze contacts replaced with silver, a new rectifier installed actuated by an air switch, a new expression engine was installed, and the chest pneumatics were cleaned and treated with silicone. The cost of this work was $1,324.50. In 1972, Balcom and Vaughan President, William J. Bunch, donated a used wooden Rohr Flute to replace the original flute. It was from a Hook & Hastings instrument in a Boston church where he had been organist and where Aeolian-Skinner had rebuilt the organ in the late 1950s. Plans were also afoot to replace the original 8' Violin with a more liturgical-sounding string, but these never materialized. The organ served a total of 55 years before being purchased by Dale Werries of Kenmore, Washington for $300.00. It was removed by him and is being installed in his home. -Database Manager
