Notes

2007-02-27 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- Originally built for the chapel of the central offices of the Presbyterian Synod of California, Southern Area in Los Angeles. Later, when Synod restructured, former chapel converted to office space. Organ placed in storage. Used in Parish Hall of Pasadena Presbyterian Church as temporary instrument while new church under contruction after 1971 earthquake. The father of the Laurelhurst pastor was a member of the Pasadena church and knew of their need of an instrument. The Schlicker was given to LPC as a gift from the McDowell Family from whom it had originally been a gift. It was dismantled my Manuel Rosales, retrieved by men from LPC, and re-installed by Manuel Rosales without tonal changes. -Database Manager

2024-04-09 - Updated through online information from Gary Ritter: This organ is now at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church in Portland, OR -Jim Stettner

2024-07-09 - This organ was purchased by St. Aidan's Episcopal Church in 2022 and was installed in September of 2022 with the help of Grant Edwards of Bond Organ Company. We had to pull the blower from the Möller that we were using because the original blower needs some electrical work. The dedication of the organ is scheduled for November 2024. NOTES
This organ was originally built for the chapel of the central offices of the Presbyterian
Synod of California, Southern Area (U.P.C. - U.S.A.) at 1501 Wilshire Blvd. In Los
Angeles, California. Later, the Synod was restructured, and the chapel re-designed as
office space. The organ was put into storage.

In 1971, an earthquake damaged the Pasadena Presbyterian Church and its organ. The church
building was replaced by a new edifice on the same site. The congregation worshiped in
the Fellowship Hall while the sanctuary was being completed. In this space, they were
given permission to use the stored McDowell Memorial organ. After completion of the new
church and installation of a new organ, the Schlicker was once again no longer needed.

The father of Laurelhurst Presbyterian Church's pastor was an elder in that Pasadena
church, and knew of the need of a pipe organ. He was instrumental in helping LPC acquire
the Schlicker as a gift from the McDowell family. Several men from the congregation went
to Pasadena to retrieve the organ which had been dismantled by Manuel Rosales. Mr.
Rosales returned with the men to install the organ at the Presbyterian Church of
Laurelhurst.
