2007-03-08 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This was a rebuild of the existing 1928 Guenther organ - which itself had been an electrification and rebuild of an 1872 E. & G.G. Hook & Hastings from Trinity Episcopal in Portland. Balcom and Vaughan added a new 8-4-2-III principal chorus, as well as new chests, reservoirs, etc. The existing Guenther console was retained and reworked. The organ contains 5 of the original Hook ranks and 4 of the Guenther ranks. The Swell 8' Trumpet was added in 1975 by René Marceau to replace the original Guenther 8' Oboe. -Database Manager

NOTES
This organ is essentially a rebuild of a rebuild. The Balcom & Vaughan
work consisted of a new Great principal chorus (8,4,2,III), plus other
new pipes and new chests. The console is the 1928 Guenther console
reworked by Balcom and Vaughan.
-The Gt. 8' Gedeckt is the original E. & G.G. H&H Sw. 8' Stopped Diapason.
-The Gt. 4' Harmonic Flute is the original E. & G.G. H&H Sw. 4' Harmonic Flute.
-The Sw. 8' Flute is the original E. & G.G. H&H Sw. 16' Bourdon.
-The Sw. 4' Geigen Octave is from the original E. & G.G. H&H Sw. 8' Violin Diapason.
-The Ped. 16' Diapason is the original E. & G.G. H&H Ped. Double Open.
-The Ped. 16' Bourdon is the original E. * G.G. H&H Ped. Bourdon.
-The Guenther Swell 8' Salicional is marked Gamba.
-The Guenther Swell 8' Voix Celeste is marked V cello.
-The Sw. 8' Trumpet was added in 1975 by Portland organ builder Rene
Rene Marceau, and replaced the retained Guenther 8' Oboe.
The organ also has a Cymbelstern operated by a toggle switch. In the
center position it is off. In the left position it plays fast, and in
the right position is plays slowly.
