2007-03-19 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This was an electrification with new drawknob console of an existing Estey which had been originally built in 1916 as Estey's Opus 1429 for the Portland, Oregon residence of Dr. John Sellwood. The Estey opus list later listed the organ as "broken-up," but it is completely intact and original minus its original console - which likely had a player. The Guenther console is prepared for additions: a 4' octave and 2' Fifteenth on the Great; a 16' - 8' - 4' - 2-2/3' - 2' Gedeckt unit on the Swell; n 8' Viol celeste and 2' Piccolo on the Choir; and two blank drawknobs on the Pedal. These were never added. In 1973, Trinity merged with Zion Lutheran to form Peace Lutheran at a new edifice. The Zion six-rank Wicks was moved and the Estey/Guenther remained behind. The chuch was acquired by Clatsop Community College who use the sanctuary as a drama auditorium, and the lower level as classrooms and offices. The organ has fallen into a state of disrepair and needs to be restored or rebuilt to make it playable. -Database Manager

It later appeared on the Estey Opus List as “broken up”. However, it was acquired by the Guenther Organ Co. of Portland, Oregon, and was rebuilt with a new drawknob console for Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Astoria, Oregon. It was installed there in 1936. In 1975, Trinity Lutheran merged with what had once been Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church to form Peace Lutheran Church. Trinity's former edifice was purchased by Clatsop Community College, and was renovated as a Performing Arts Center with the lower level serving as offices, science labs, and practice rooms. At the time of the building's purchase, the college entered into contract with Portland, Oregon organ technician Michael Dillon to have the organ repaired, re-leathered, and brought into top condition. This work was never completed. In more recent years, the organ has been cared for by Mr. Leonard Vernon, Mr. Fred Efaw, and Mr. Michael Cole of Astoria. Unfortunately, the Fine Arts Department of the College dwindled substantially after the acquisition and conversion of the church, and the organ has continued to decay into poor condition – showing its age through multiple dead notes, ciphers, and dead stops. The Swell division has console preparations for five stops in the form of a stopped flute unit of 97 pipes from 16' Bourdon through 2' Flautina. Those stops are marked with an asterisk (*) in the specification. The Choir has two prepared-for stops: the 8' Viol Celeste and the 2' Piccolo. And the Great is prepared for a 4' Octave and a 2' Fifteenth. All of the couplers, both intra-manual and inter-divisional, appear as drawknobs within the divisions they affect. The Great, Choir, and Pedal 16' Bourdon & 8' Traverse Flote [sic] are in a large chamber on the left side of the chancel. The Swell and Pedal 16' Lieblich Gedeckt share the chamber on the right side of the chancel. Both chambers have expression shutters facing across the chancel and into the sanctuary. The Swell 8' Vox Humana is located on its own chest inside a box which is elevated above the main Swell chest. Sources: Estey opus list; JRS; extant, rebuilt organ [Received from James R.
