2021-12-24 - I drove to the church in November 2021. News had come from the media that the building had been determined to be uninhabitable. I found a few people walking around outside the building and I stopped to ask if they knew what was going on in the building. The three people were the minister of the church, the District Superintendent and a Trustee of the Holston Conference. I told them that I was a former organist of this church and they invited me in to see what was happening. The building is currently being rehabilitated and is once again open. I was able to play the Moller but much of it was not working. The Swell division was about the only portion of the organ that was playable. The Great, Choir and Pedal divisions have some switch problems. The pipe chambers were in pretty good condition with no water damage. I was told that a local organ builder (Randall Dyer) had been brought in to determine what it would take to make the instrument playable once again. Randall had done work on this instrument in 1999 after a fire in the building. Apparently they plan to restore the instrument. While this is not a large instrument (23 ranks) that occupies a room that seats about 1,200 I always found the instrument had plenty of plenty to fill the room. -Timothy Lett
