Notes

2007-09-26 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This was a rebuild and augmentation of the parish's existing 1976 E. & G.G. Hook & Hastings, opus 821. The existing manual chests were retained and fitted with E-P pull-downs. The Swell had a prepared-for 8' Vox Humana. The Swell 16' Bourdon was borrowed to the Pedal at 16' & 8'. The Pedal 16' wood Open Diapason was unified to play at 16' & 8' pitches. And the 16' Bourdon plays at 16', 8', 5-1/3', & 4' pitches. The 8' Violon Cello remained straight. The console was placed in a choir gallery on the left side of the sanctuary with the organist facing across the chancel. -Database Manager

NOTES
The organ is free-standing and encased at the front of the room with a 5-sectional façade
containing 29 pipes arranged: 7-3-9-3-7. There are also 9 stopped wood pipes visible at
the center immediately behind the façade. The side saddle keydesk was attached to the
left side of the case.

As originally built this organ was II-manual and pedal with 25 independent registers, 27
speaking stops, 29 ranks, and 1,667 pipes. It is in its original home and position in the
church – excepting the console. Sadly, the original stenciled façade pipes have been
painted-over hiding the original colors of drab, brown, gold, black, and shades of blue.

The action was electrified to the original chests by Rostron Kershaw in 1954, and in 1964
the console was moved to the left (South) transept gallery. All of the original pipework
is present, though in some cases in a new application. An 8' Gedeckt was added to the
Great, and an 8' Viola da Gamba was added to the Swell. The 4' Violina became the tenor C
8' Voix Celeste, and the 8' Aeoline is the original 8' Viola. The Pedal compass was
increased from 27 notes to 32 notes and all of the ranks were extended accordingly. The
Open Diapason and Bourdon were unified, but the 8' Violoncello remained a straight stop.
Of the original double set of Swell shutters, only the outer set remains.
