2013-05-27 - Updated through online information from Ken Norton. -- I talked to our two church historians this morning (5/26/13). When the congregation moved from the corner of 16th and L Streets in Tacoma in 1954, they did not move the existing Kimball pipe organ. They used a small home electronic organ from 1954 until about 1966 when they built their new sanctuary at which time they purchased an electronic Rodgers organ. Zion Lutheran Church has never owned the M.P. Moller, Opus 7135 instrument. -Database Manager
2020-07-28 - Tacoma had two Zion Lutheran churches - the one into which the Moller was installed was the Norwegian Lutheran Church in South Tacoma - not the one referenced in the note below on 6th Avenue. The organ is a stock model 4-rank 'Artiste' and was a chambered installation without a case. Zion Lutheran later became aware that they shared a common name with another Lutheran congregation and changed their name prior to 1963 to Mt. Zion Lutheran. A new edifice was built on Thompson Ave. in the 1960's and the organ was moved along to the new location and again installed in a chamber. -Jim Stettner

Zion Lutheran (before 1963) to avoid confusion with the Zion Lutheran on 6th Avenue. in the 1960's, the Mt. Zion congregation built a ne edifice on S. Thompson Ave. and the organ was taken along. It is presently not known who did the move and reinstallation. No known changes were made either tonally or mechanically. A subsequent merger between congregations in the 1980's resulted in the organ being moved to a third home and the new congregation name was United Lutheran Church.
