Notes

2020-07-28 - NOTES This organ was originally built for Norwegian Zion Lutheran Church on So. 59th Street in So. Tacoma, and was installed in a chamber. The church later before 1963) modified its name to Mt. Zion Lutheran to avoid confusion with the Zion Lutheran on 6th Avenue. At an unknown date in the 1960's, the Mt. Zion Lutheran built a new edifice on Thompson St. The organ was brought along and again installed in a chamber under expression with an ornamental grille containing gold dummy pipes. Shortly after the 1987 merger that created the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, three Lutheran churches in south Tacoma (that had been in different church bodies) joined to create United Lutheran Church at 1231 S. 76th St., the existing home of one of those churches. The building on S. Thompson Ave. was sold and the organ put into storage. It remained in storage for many years, and was installed at S. 76th St. in a new freestanding case incorporating the old swell shades and the dummy facade. The case only contains the main chest, several off chests are unenclosed behind it. -Jim Stettner
