2008-10-20 - Updated through online information from Robert Holland. -- This organ was one the later Aeolian Skinner organs built. It was 4 manuals and to be 86 ranks with mostly straight ranks. (Very few extensions and borrows). It was designed to be so complete that there were only 8' manual to manual couplers installed. Unfortunately this organ was never completed as designed. Due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the organ sustained a good bit of damage and was rendered unplayable. A. E. Schleuter of Atlanta, GA. has built a brand new 83 rank 4 manual organ in the chapel, which seats about 1800 or so. A good bit of the original pipework was retained with a number of new additions. I have not yet heard the new organ but I have a very good friend who is a professor there and he says it is very nice!! I do have a stoplist of this organ and it is very complete is all divisions. It is unfortunate that the original Skinner was never completed but the new instrument seems to quite nice! -Database Manager
