2021-06-06 - The Lincoln Avenue Methodist church was originally located at 744 N. Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena, California. (In early newspaper accounts, the church is listed as the "Lincoln-avenue Methodist Episcopal Church.") It was dedicated on April 17, 1898. The organ was the first built by Harris as an independent organ builder, following his previous partnerships with Henry C. Fletcher and George L. Maxfield. The organ made its formal debut on the same day as the church. According to David Lennox Smith, "a feature found noteworthy at the time was the placement of the console some twenty feet from the pipes." Following a merger with another church, the congregation vacated the building in 1968, with the organ being removed in the early 1970s. The church building was acquired by the United State Postal Service in 1979 and was subsequently moved in 1981 to the Heritage Square open-air museum in Los Angeles. The location of the organ, if extant, is unknown. -Edmond Johnson
