2024-05-12 - From Rev. David Donathan, Minister of Music/Organist, Christ Church UM: This instrument, installed in 1904 in the State Street Methodist Church with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie, was moved to the stage at the YMCA in Charleston, WV in 1908 where the congregation of the State Street Methodist Church met until a new gothic building was built at the corner of Quarrier & Morris, Charleston, WV. This organ was sold in 1911 to Simpson AME Church, Charleston, WV where it served this congregation until the mid-1990s. In 1996, the organ was in disrepair, and Christ Church United Methodist, formerly known as the State Street Methodist Church, purchased the organ, took possession of just the pipes and "brought the organ home." The pipes will be used in an antiphonal organ designed by Chris Holtkamp of the Holtkamp Organ Company, Cleveland Ohio. This antiphonal organ will be matched in concept and design to the current pipe organ located in the Centrum of Christ Church United Methodist, Charleston, installed in 1975 by Walter Holtkamp, Jr, Chris Holtkamp's father. The antiphonal organ is scheduled to be installed in the summer of 2025. -Brad Engelland
