Notes

2012-01-05 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- While built for the Biggs home, this organ traveled with E. Power Biggs to many venues around the United States. Sometime after the 1956 AGO Convention in New York City (where it also made an appearance), the organ was sold, rebuilt by Schlicker with one 12-pipe extension and one rank added, and moved to a private residence in California. It was replaced in the Biggs home by the John Challis 2-manual and pedal harpsichord. -Database Manager

2021-02-17 - From NYC organ page: On Thursday, June 28, 1956, organist E. Power Biggs and an instrumental ensemble presented a program of Sweelinck, Soler, Handel and Mozart in the Hunter College Auditorium. Mr. Biggs played his traveling organ, dubbed "The Cambridge Portativ," that was built by the Schlicker Organ Company in 1953. This organ was later refurbished by Schlicker — who added an 8' Principal (12 pipes) and 1-3/5' Terz (45 pipes) — and sold to a private individual for his California residence. -John Roper
