2022-09-15 - The present frame church, built al a cost of about $5,000, was dedicated 13 January 1874; in the words of Ethel Purkis, "a large organ was purchased and moved Into the new church." That may have been a reed organ. In 1892, the "present pipe organ was Installed through the work of a few Interested people ... Soon after this organ was installed, Miss Josie Shaw look lessons on it and became the regular organist of the Church, holding this position for over 50 years." The organ, listed by the Hooks as a "1-10", was built for the Baptist Church in Waterville, Maine; the Rev. M. Champlin signed the contract. The Waterville church subsequently bought a two-manual L. C. Harrison, Op. 1330, 1892, and the old organ became available for the Buckfield Church, which purchased it for $100. The Flute 4' is a common metal Chimney Flute. The Dulciana Cornet III is 12-15-17. The Sub Bafs 16' plays on the pedal only when the Pedal Coupler is drawn; similarly, the Pedal Coupler Is activated only when it and the Sub Baſs 16' knobs are drawn. The Trumpet 8' pipes are recent replacements of the originals. -- *1992 OHS Handbook* -Paul R. Marchesano
