2025-01-31 - The builder is identified as "C. E. Morey of Utica, N. Y." in "Dunmore" (column), Scranton Republican, Wednesday, February 28, 1906, 11, Newspapers.com, https://www.newspapers.com/image/48254540; the notice also includes the program of the opening recital and the stoplist of the organ (see under "Documents"). The opus number is given in Bynum Petty, "Clarence E. Morey: An Illustrated Introduction to His Life and Work," The Tracker 68, no. 3 (July 2024): 52: "Pennsylvania . . . Dunmore First Methodist, 229." The Morey organ was presumably replaced by Casavant Frères Ltée.'s Op. 2421; see "Dunmore Methodist Church Organ Will Be Dedicated Monday Night," Scrantonian, Sunday, January 12, 1958, 11, Newspapers.com, https://www.newspapers.com/image/533259945: "A $105,257 building and organ program is nearing completion at Dunmore Methodist Church, which marks its 100th anniversary in 1960. The new $27,100 Casavant pipe organ will be dedicated Monday night. . . . History of construction of the Dunmore church follows: . . . 1889, completion and dedication of the present church at South Blakely and Rigg Sts.; . . . 1906, new pipe organ installed." The history does not mention any other organ in the church. The fate of the Morey organ is unknown. -Charles Eberline
