Notes

2012-12-31 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by William Dunklin, using information found in David Junchen "The Wurlitzer Pipe Organ, an Illustrated History." -- Style D X, 2 manuals, 6 ranks and percussions in 2 chambers. Factory date: April 5, 1926.<BR> Opened c.1924 as the Florida Theatre, the name was changed to the Franklin Theatre, but by the early 1940s the name was changed back to the Florida Theatre. It was torn down ca. 1978. Fate of the organ is unknown. In 1926 the much larger Tampa Theatre was being built directly across the street. The Franklin's purchase of a Wurlitzer organ was likely an attempt to upgrade their presentation to forestall the coming competition. -Database Manager
