2013-11-16 - Updated through online information from T. Daniel Hancock. -- The organ was enlarged with the addition of several new ranks and a refurbished three-manual console by Quimby in 2003. At the same time, the church added a package of digital stops, mostly inspired by Skinner voices, to the instrument which are playable from all manuals. The core of unaltered pipes original to the McManis instrument of 1971 is generally considered to constitute some of the finest voicing work McManis ever did in any organ, and the particular care and attention to voicing of individual stops results in a chameleon-like shading and subtlety of nuance to voicing throughout the range. Becuase of this, the stops are highly characteristic when used individually, and exhibit remakarkable blend in combination. <br>The Sanctuary of the South Street Christian Church is "in the round," with arced pews oriented towards a center, round altar. The space is round, and on one side (the south) of the Sanctuary, the pews are interrupted by a pulpit, choir, and chancel platform. There are two organ chambers, one on either side of this chancel platform. -Database Manager
