2014-07-17 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by Andrew Henderson, using information found in The Thorold Post (July 16, 1918; Feb 25, 1919); other historical sources. -- Organ purchased by Walter Spencer, Hamilton, ON, when E. & G. G. Hook Organ (Op. 911) was installed. The organ was then sold to St. John's Church, Thorold, where it was installed in 1884.<br>When that organ was substantially rebuilt in 1918, the old instrument was mentioned in at least two articles in The Thorold Post, including the following from July 16, 1918:<br><em>"In a small box in the interior of the organ several 'clippings' were found, all in German from Waterloo and Guelph, and bearing the date the 20th of April, 1848. This was the cornerstone (sic) of the organ, and it gives the date in which it left the shop. In 1848 it was placed in St. George's Church, St. Catharines, and remained there until the year 1883 when it was shipped to Hamilton for repairs."</em> -Database Manager
