Notes

2016-01-24 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by Scot Huntington, using information found in David Junchen: Encyclopedia of the American Theatre Organ, Vol. 1; 1985.

The theater was built in 1922 as the Maxey Theatre. It was renamed the Palace Theatre some time prior to 1941 by which time it was operated by the Schine Circuit, and remained in operation until it was torn down in 1966, at which time the organ had been gone for many years.

The organ is listed in the Marr & Colton opus list in Junchen, with details other than it had 2 manuals. Articles in the Oneonta Star describe the theatre construction as being underway in 1922 and the March 23, 1923 issue stated that it was acquired by the Schine circuit and would reopen in April after the installation of new equipment. The article further states, "...S. Raymond Strong, whom Mr. Maxey recently engaged to play the organ will remain, and additional stops for the organ have been ordered." -Database Manager
