Notes

2016-03-17 - This entry describes alterations to an existing organ. Identified by Scot Huntington, based on personal knowledge of the organ.

During the summer of 1972, the organ was moved from the cellar practice room of Old Mason Hall, to the third-floor organ suite of the New Mason Music Building addition.

The organ was returned to the Schlicker factory where the organ was altered as follows: the shutters were removed from the Great expression box and the grill cloth was removed from behind the organ grills of both Artiste expression boxes; the Gedeckt and Diapason were revoiced, the specification and unification was slightly altered with a new Moller stop rail, and the celluloid keyboards were recovered with plastic.

It was a tight fit, and the organ barely fit in the new practice room- the Great Artiste box was placed directly in front of the console and the Swell was placed perpendicular to it on the left. The Department of Music disbanded the Organ Department in the late 1980s, and sometime after 2000, a local piano dealer took all three practice organs in trade as partial payment on a new grand piano for the chamber music hall.

The three practice rooms were taken over as studios for the Tonmeister recording-engineer degree program. The three practice organs were then resold in one lot to a private individual in Erie, Pennsylvania who retained this instrument for use as a house organ, reselling the the 2.5 rank Moller and 5-rank portable Schlicker unit organs to other individuals. -Database Manager
