Consoles

Main

Notes

2021-10-13 - The console, built by Colby, was originally installed by Barger & Nix in the 1980's in a Chattanooga-area church where it temporarily played a 3-rank Moller Artiste (Op. 8400), with plans for considerable enlargement in a new sanctuary. It was removed when it was no longer needed due to music program changes. Around that time, Barger & Nix contracted with the First Baptist of Saks to relocate its Zimmer to their new building. The Colby console was relocated to the new Saks building to control the Zimmer along with vintage pipework from 1928 Moller Op. 5029, a large and very complete 2-manual that was removed from Ochs Memorial Temple, Chattanooga TN, in 1973 and placed in storage. The Moller had been designed by Edwin Lemare, who was organist at the Temple at the time, as well as Chattanooga civic organist. Along with the Zimmer, the Moller Great was installed at Saks and the Swell and Pedal stored until funds permitted their installation. When a custodian seriously damaged console cables while trying to move the console by himself, Barger & Nix became no longer involved with the organ. -Jeff Scofield
