2023-01-26 - From *2007 OHS Atlas*: Jesse G. Crane was organist for this church [Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Indianapolis] beginning in 1920 and through at least 1932, thus during this building project. Crane had studied with Charles F. Hansen of the Second Presbyterian Church and had served as organist for the Alhan1bra Theater, as well as several other churches, before commencing his association with Third Church. He had served as dean of the Indiana (now Indianapolis) Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. In his residence was a twomanual, eleven-rank, mechanical-action Farrand & Votey organ. Crane's importance to the history of the pipe organ in Indianapolis cannot be overstated, for his collection of drawings and specifications of instruments in the metropolitan area, now in the Indianapolis Public Library, is an excellent example of organ documentation long before the Organ Historical Society began its work of collecting data. -Paul R.
