2023-01-30 - As reported in the *Hamilton Spectator and Journal of Commerce* (November 26, 1853): "New Organ for Hamilton -- The Montreal *Herald* thus alludes to a new organ built at that city for the Church of Ascension here: We had the pleasure, a few days ago, of seeing and hearing a new organ which has been completed by Mr. S. R. Warren for the Church of Ascension at Hamilton. This is a very fine instrument, with thirteen stops, of which some are especially remarkable for the beautiful quality of their tones. The "concert flute" struck us as being perhaps the most beautiful of these stops; but the "diapason," "dulcinea" [sic], and "trumpet," are also well worthy of notice. The latter inspires all the ardor and enthusiasm which is communicated by the instrument whose name it bears. The power of the instrument is very great; well calculated to peal through the cloistered arches of an ecclesiastical building with that solemn music which, after one has satiated himself with the lighter and livlier lyric productions, always retains the chief hold on his soul." Church of the Ascension opened for services on June 21, 1851, and the building was destroyed by fire on January 6, 1887. -Andrew Henderson
