The church's previous instrument was a III-manual, 12-rank M.P. Möller, opus 7093 built in 1942, and installed across the front of the church. The original façade was covered during a 1950's sanctuary renovation. In 1972, Balcom and Vaughan added two ranks bringing the total number of ranks to 14. When the new Balcom and Vaughan was installed, a few ranks of pipes were retained and revoiced. The remaining chests, pipes, and the console were dispersed for parts. The present organ is free-standing and housed in a case of red oak. The façade contains 49 pipes of the Great and Pedal 8' Principals arranged as 5 towers with 4 flats in between. The pipes are distributed: 5-7-3-7-5-7-3-7-5. The Pedal 16' Soubasse / 8' Bourdon is the Möller Bourdon. On the Great, the 8' Gemshorn is from the original Möller. The Great 16' Bourdon is a set of reconditioned Johnston pipes. The IV Cornet is mounted and made from used Aeolian-Skinner mixture pipes. In the Swell the 8' Bourdon is the original Stopped Diapason with the nicking removed and the cut-up lowered. The 8' Flûte Trav. has been made from the former 4' Harmonic Flute. The 8' Celeste is made from the Möller 8' Dulciana. The first __ notes of the 2-2/3' Nasard are from the former 4' Chimney Flute. The first 24 pipes of the 1-3/5 Tierce are from the former 2'. The 1-1/3' Larigot is older Stinkens pipework. The remaining pipework is new by Stinkens. The blank stoptablet on the Great is prepared for an 8' Regale. The organ was dedicated by David di Fiore on May 13, 1991. After the dedication, Balcom and Vaughan built and added a second set of expression shutters in the roof of the swellbox to increase tonal egress. A Zimbelstern controlled by a reversible toestud was also installed at a later date. Source: Balcom and Vaughan opus list and files; JRS; extant organ. [Received from James R. Stettner 2012-05-10.]
