Notes

2006-01-01 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This Wicks replaced an earlier Kimball organ installed when this building was known as First United Presbyterian Church housing a congregation that folded. Somewhat oddly, the Great principal chorus is under expression, while the softer Gemshorn, Nachthorn, and Koppel Flute are exposed in a symmetrical display. The Wicks retained the 8' Vox Humana added to the previous Kimball by Balcom and Vaughan in 1951. -Database Manager

NOTES
This church was originally built as First United Presbyterian Church. When that congregation
folded, a new Presbyterian congregation bought the building, and changed the name to West-
minster Presbyterian Church.

The first pipe organ in the building was a used instrument built by the W.W. Kimball Co. of
Chicago in 19__ as their opus ____. It was originally built for the Grand Theatre in Bellingham,
and was moved to the church and electrified by Kimball representative Arthur D. Longmore in 1929.
According to Vol. I of the Encyclopedia of the American Theatre Organ by David L. Junchen, the
original instrument was II-manual and pedal with seven ranks, and operated by tubular-pneumatic
action.

In 1951, Balcom and Vaughan of Seattle added an 8' Vox Humana to the Swell.

In 1963, the organ was replaced by a new II-manual, 18-rank Wicks pipe organ. The Kimball was
moved to the Seattle residence of Elizabeth Lysen by Charles Wassberg. The Kimball was again
relocated in 1989, this time to Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Thrasher's Corner, Bothell,
WA. The move and installation were done by Charles Wassberg and William J. Bunch.

Regarding the Wicks, the unenclosed pipes of the Great are exposed above the choir in the chancel
area, and speak directly down the length of the sanctuary. The last 4 notes of the 1-3/5' Gemshorn
breaks back. The exposed Nachthorn is actually of capped metal.

The expressive Great II Mixture is pitched at 1-1/3' + 1' [19-22] and is taken directly from the
2-2/3' Twelfth and 2' Fifteenth. It runs unbroken until the top octave. The Pedal II Mixture is
taken directly from the 2-2/3' Twelfth and 2' Fifteenth at their regular pitches without breaking
back. Notes 1-19 of the 8' Krummhorn are half length.

The Pedal 4' Super Octave is from the Great 8' Diapason. The Pedal 16' Lieblich Gedeckt and 16'
Bourdon share the first 12 notes. The pipes are on a dual valve chest.

The Swell 8' Vox Humana is the 1951 rank added by Balcom and Vaughan and retained from the previous
instrument.

The Chorus Expression Off controls the bottom banks of shutters in both the Great and Swell.
