2023-05-09 - This instrument was built for the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church (after 1982 Unitarian Universalist). The unit 8' Principal, the unit 3-rank mixture, and the bottom 12 notes of the pedal 16' Subbass were exposed on the stage immediately behind the clergy seats. The tenor C Gemshorn, Gedeckt and Fagot were enclosed in a chamber on the left as looking at the pulpit. The console and choir seats were located above and behind the exposed "Great" division. Possibly a unique feature was a set of 3 exposed swell shades opening into the choir balcony which were in easy reach of the organist's right hand but had no swell motor. The organist opened or closed the shades as desired to adjust the volume that the choir and organist received. When the congregation relocated to a new facility in 1998 the Schantz organ was sold to Gatlinburg Presbyterian Church in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and installed there without changes by William Dunklin, former organist/music director of this church. -William Dunklin
