Notes

2005-12-29 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This organ is a conglomerate instrument assembled by C.M. "Sandy" Balcom for his Seattle residence. The console and some of the pipework is from the Estey organ opus 2277, 1924 - originally built for the Irvington Theatre in Seattle, Washington. It was later relocated to the chapel at University Temple United Methodist Church in Seattle. Ultimately, it waspurchased by the Pipe Organ Foundation of Mercer Island, Washington for $2,100.00 and rebuilt / augmented for Covenant Presbyterian. -Database Manager

2013-04-18 - Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. -- The original Balcom and Vaughan made for Sandy Balcom's residence was moved to the chapel at University Temple United Methodist Church in Seattle in 1956 by Balcom and Vaughan. It was installed in Issaquah by the Pipe Organ foundation in 2002 with one rank added: a 4' Octave. In that original installation, the organ was in a chamber at the right end of the sanctuary with the console in fixed position at the right as well. In the Fall of 2005, the Pipe organ Foundation moved the organ to the new church on essentially the same site. No tonal or mechanical changes were made a that time. The organ has since been replaced with another instrument installed by the Pipe Organ Foundation, and retaining two of the former ranks (Diapason and Clarinet) and the 16' Lieblich Gedeckt extension. -Database Manager

NOTES
The console is Estey, Opus 2277, 1924 - originally built for the
Irvington Theatre in Portland, OR. It was acquired by C.M. “Sandy”
Balcom for his Seattle residence organ in 1941.

In ca. 1956, that organ was relocated by Balcom and Vaughan to University
Temple United Methodist Church in Seattle’s University District for use
as a chapel organ. It served there until 2001 when it was replaced by a
used, relocated Werner Bosch tracker. The chapel organ was sold to the
Pipe Organ Foundation for $2,000.00 and relocated with some omissions,
and some minor changes to the original edifice of Covenant Presbyterian
Church in Issaquah. The original electro-mechanical gang switch relay
and all the chests received new cables with quick disconnect plugs. It
was installed there at one end of the room in a floor-level chamber built
specifically for the organ. The installation was done by Carl Dodrill -
Founder of the Pipe Organ Foundation - assisted by Clinton B. Meadway.
Tonal regulation was done by Clinton B. Meadway and James R. Stettner.

The Pipe Organ Foundation added a used Diapason rank from tenor C as an
independent 4’ Octave. Pipes 1-12 of the 8’ Tuba were donated by Mr.
Meadway and were originally from the 1911 Austin Opus 354 - originally
built for First Church of Christ, Scientist in Seattle. Mr. Meadway
had acquired them from Harold B. Curryer of Spokane, WA. whose service
business he had purchased some years before.

The organ was dedicated August 2, 2002.

In 2005, the congregation built a new edifice, and the pipe organ was
subsequently relocated by the Pipe Organ Foundation ‘as is’ to the new
facility. A center ‘reredos’ sporting a cross was used to provide the
backdrop to the chancel, and provided storage behind at floor level, and
the organ chamber behind and above. The blower and gang switch relay are
located in a pit under the floor in the storage area behind the reredos.
The organ was reinstalled without expression since there were plans to
rebuild and enlarge the organ later, and it was not yet decided what the
new configuration would be.

The future rebuild and enlargement will not make use of some of the
present pipework, such as the Gemshorn and Celeste, and the 8’ Tuba.
Neither will it retain the Estey horseshoe console.
